Sally specializes in pot melted glass. The pot melt is made by placing bits of colored glass in a terra cotta flower pot. The pot is placed in the kiln just above the kiln shelf and heated to 1600 degrees. At this high temperature the glass becomes molten and drips through the hole in the bottom of the pot. The glass pools on the kiln shelf and becomes a disk. Pot melts can be made in any size; Tiny pots make beautiful pendants and larger pots can hold enough glass to form a large disk which can then be slumped into a mold and become an elegant dish. |
